Since YIMBY’s last update, brick facade work has made significant progress at Broadway Youth Center, a new five-story interdisciplinary wellness center by Howard Brown Health. Situated at 1023 W Irving Park Road in Lake View, the project will be geared towards LGBTQ youth ages 12-24, particularly those who do not have stable housing situations.
The building will offer a variety of functions, including a health clinic, community spaces, counseling rooms, social and career services, and dance and movement rooms spanning two floors. With Wheeler Kearns Architects behind the design, the exterior incorporates a red brick cladding with various patterns, while the interior utilizes a dynamic color palette. At the front of the structure will be additional landscaping to welcome visitors and staff.
Bus transit for Routes X9, 80, 151 are all in the immediate vicinity, with other options in the general area consisting of Routes 22, 36, 135, 136, 148, 151, and 152. Meanwhile, the CTA L Red Line is available at Sheridan station via a two-minute walk southeast.
The facility is replacing a former construction project that was ultimately demolished due to construction flaws. At a reported cost $11.5 million, the current construction is being carried out by Bulley & Andrews, with work expected to wrap up around Q3 of this year.
