Construction is now above street level for Inspire West Town, an eight-story mixed-use development by Bond Companies located at 1140 W Erie Street. The 108-foot-tall West Town development will house ground-level retail and a total of 113 rental units. Six of these units will be affordable, while an additional 17 will be provided off site under the Affordable Requirements Ordinance.
Apartments will scale from studios up through three-bedroom residences. Select units will also come with private balconies. Residents will find various amenities integrated throughout the project, such as a fitness center, a dog run and wash, a 4,300-square-foot terrace on the second floor, and an eighth-floor lounge and skyline-facing deck. Parking will provide 29 vehicle spaces and 93 bike spaces.
Fitzgerald Associates is the design architect for the project, with an L-shaped main massing atop a triangular podium in order to conform to the unique shape of the property. The tower’s exterior will incorporate a fiberglass window system, and matte metal panels of white, gray, and green. Meanwhile, the base will be clad in a mix of both brick and stone.
Given the relatively low number of available parking spaces, the development will be heavily transit oriented, with a host of bus and rail options nearby. Bus Route 65 is available via a four-minute walk southwest to the intersection of Grand & Racine. The three-point intersection of Milwaukee, Ogden, & Chicago is also close by, situated a six-minute walk northeast. Not only does this intersection offer a swath of shopping and dining options, but also bus stops for Routes 56 and 66 as well as subway service for the CTA L Blue Line. For those wishing to board the Green and Pink Lines, Morgan station can be found via a 15-minute walk southeast.
As far as green space, residents can also find Eckhart Park to the northwest and Bickerdike Square Park to the southwest.
Global Builders Inc. is the general contractor for the reportedly $40 million construction. Since the last update, full permits have been issued, and most of the podium structure is complete. A full completion is expected for 2022.

hopefully they reconsider the cladding before it gets any further… looks like the affordable housing going up in Logan & other neighborhoods that seems to be designed so people *know* it’s below market rate (which is problematic on its own)
