Sister Cities: Nation’s Only Top-First Tower Rises In Detroit

Chicago YIMBY continues its Sister Cities series covering innovative and skyline-defining projects in the Midwest with another trip to Detroit. We originally kicked off the series with coverage of the Hudson’s Site skyscraper earlier this year and we now return to take a look at the Exchange Building nearby at 338 Gratiot Avenue near Greektown. Developer and general contractor Barton Malow is working with global firms Thornton Tomasetti for structural engineering and Ghafari Associates on the architecture of the structure.

Sister Cities: World’s Tallest Timber Tower Opens In Milwaukee

Chicago YIMBY continues our Sister Cities series covering projects across the Midwest with a newly completed building in our closest neighbor city, Milwaukee. The predominantly residential structure at 700 E Kilbourn Avenue in the heart of downtown has become the world’s tallest mass-timber structure, placing the city at the heart of the discussion of future construction technologies. Developers New Land Enterprises and Wiechmann Enterprises partnered with architecture firm Korb + Associates on its design and Thornton Tomasetti on its engineering.

Sister Cities: A Look At Detroit’s Newest Skyline-Defining Hudson’s Site Skyscraper

Chicago YIMBY is putting the spotlight on significant developments in surrounding Midwestern cities in a new series of articles called Sister Cities. Today we are covering the new renderings released for the massive mixed-use Hudson’s Site development at 1208 Woodward Avenue in downtown Detroit. Located on the intersection with Grand River Avenue across the street from Detroit-native watchmaker Shinola’s Hotel, the new tower will become the city’s second tallest building behind the famed Renaissance Center. Local developer Bedrock Detroit is working along side of New York-based SHoP Architects on the design of the game-changing skyscraper.
