Promontory Point in Hyde Park Receives Penultimate Approval for Landmark Status

Prior to a final approval from City Hall, the Commission on Chicago Landmarks has recommended a landmark designation for the Promontory Point, a historic peninsula situated between 54th and 56th Streets in Hyde Park. Constructed in the 1920s and 1930s, this unique parkland features landscaping by esteemed designer Alfred Caldwell and is distinguished by the last remaining limestone revetments along Chicago’s lakefront.

Preservation Chicago Announces Most Endangered Buildings Of The Year

Preservation Chicago has released its yearly list of the most endangered buildings in Chicago for 2022 spanning multiple neighborhoods. In its 20th year, the list outlines eight buildings at risk for demolition in the city that contribute towards the architectural legacy seven of the city announced by the director of Preservation Chicago Ward Miller.

Funding Secured For First Major Lakefront Study Since 1996

New funding has been secured for the protection and restoration of Chicago’s shoreline from Wilmette to East Side on the Indiana border. The funding comes from the $1.3 trillion Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act passed last November of which Illinois will receive $17 billion to improve highways, bridges, and water infrastructure among others. The first phase of spending in Chicago will go to a major study of the lakefront and execution of outstanding projects.
