Northwestern’s football team is set to play most of its 2024 and 2025 home games at the Lanny and Sharon Martin athletics facility on the university’s Evanston campus. A temporary structure will be constructed, offering views of Lake Michigan, North Campus, and downtown Chicago, serving as a transitional venue until the new Ryan Field opens in 2026.
Demolition work is nearing completion at Northwestern’s 97 year-old Ryan Field. The demolition began in February and is now down to the Central seating section on one side and the end-zone on the other. The total stadium rebuild is on track to finish in summer 2026.
The City of Evanston has approved the new Ryan Field stadium at 1505 Central Street in Evanston. Located on the intersection with Ashland Avenue, the new building will rebuild the existing bowl-style stadium owned and used by Northwestern University. The work is being led by the university itself with Kansas City-based architects HNTB serving as the designers who have worked on other college venues.
New funding has been secured for the expansion of the Simpson Querrey Biomedical Research Center at 303 E Superior Street in Streeterville. Located just east of the intersection with N Fairbanks Court, the current structure operated by Northwestern University is sandwiched between two medical office high-rises near their downtown hospital. The university, which recently announced a redesign of Ryan Field in Evanston, is now moving forward with its second phase which is expected to use the same team as phase one including global firm Perkins & Will along with engineering firm Thornton Tomasetti.
Plans have been revealed for a new football stadium at 1505 Central Street in Evanston.
