In a blog post released on June 23rd, Yelp co-founder and CEO Jeremy Stoppelman announced that “the future of work is remote.” Along with their New York and Washington D.C. offices, the internet mainstay will also be shuttering its Chicago offices located at 222 W Merchandise Mart Plaza, within the Merchandise Mart. These changes come after the 2021 downsizing of its San Francisco headquarters.
Initial renderings have been revealed for a new expansive renovation of the Merchandise Mart at 222 W Merchandise Mart Plaza in River North. The renovation comes just a few years after it received major updates including new elevators, monumental stairs, and upgrades to other amenity areas. The new work will be led by New York-based developer Vornado Realty Trust who is also planning some residential towers nearby, while the design is led by the local office of Gensler.
Topping off at 13 stories, 448 N LaSalle Drive has reached its full height in River North. YIMBY previously reported on the office development which filed for construction permits this past spring. Construction photos currently show the building’s structure reaching the final floor, where the rooftop deck will be. Additionally, the main curtain wall now covers the first seven floors, with the eighth floor partially installed.
