A permit has been issued for a one-story manufacturing facility at 616 S Maplewood Avenue in Tri-Taylor. The listed occupying owner, Edward J Ivy Descendants Trust, has also planned for additional storage and office spaces to attach to the main manufacturing component. The site is currently occupied by a large grass plot of land.
Kelly Harris of Harris Architects is the architect of record. No drawings or rendering could be found online.
The property is in close proximity to bus service for CTA Route 7, which is directly adjacent to the property via Harrison & Maplewood. Also nearby is the Western L station, whose Blue Line service is accessible via a seven-minute walk northeast.
Loberg Construction Co will serve as the general contractor for the $3.8 million build. As of now, no anticipated completion date has been revealed.

Seems like an odd site for manufacturing – effectively in a residential neighborhood. It’s probably the result of legacy zoning. The City really needs to review its zoning, compared to the updated Comp Plan, and determine how things should be zoned. You should zone for what you want, not was historically there.
Politicians would try to eliminate industrial zoning for all of the city. We need jobs for working people here and current zoning already makes that difficult.
