The West Tower Crane Is Already Gone From McDonald’s Park

McDonald's Park west tower crane removedOnly the yellow Liebherr tower crane on the east side of McDonald's Park remains on the job.

The tower crane count we highlighted earlier this week has already been rendered irrelevant with the discovery that the west tower crane at McDonald’s Park has already been taken down. The big yellow crawler crane once mistaken for the second tower crane is still in operation over on the west side of the Chicago Fire’s new soccer stadium to do the remainder of the heavy lifting. This all makes us wonder if the east crane will be similarly short-lived once progress on the first level has worked its way 360 degrees around the park.

McDonald’s Park didn’t last long as a two-crane project. The west crane was erected the first week of June, working by itself along the river just south of Roosevelt Road until the east crane went up last month. We can’t say when exactly the crane was taken down; it was still pulling its weight on our last visit (to see the second crane in action) on September 22. Alas, what goes up in the Chicago crane business must come down.

While we were here, we swung our attention across Roosevelt Road to get you caught up on glazing 1010 South Wells, which now has four completed levels of glass and looks to be hours away from topping out. Of course, topping out would mean this tower crane would come down soon as well.
