Work is underway on the complete reconstruction of the Metra Electric Line’s 95th Street station in Roseland. Located at the northeast corner of Chicago State University, at the intersection with South Cottage Grove Avenue, the new station house will restore an existing brick building and demolish another to allow for expansion.

The project is being led by Metra and is part of a massive capital improvement initiative that includes upgrades to 52 stations—primarily along the Metra Electric, Rock Island, and Milwaukee District North lines. The work will also include street crossing and signal improvements, as well as the replacement of thousands of feet of track and 117,000 ties this year.

The new $33.4 million station house will replace the current headhouse with a significantly larger structure that incorporates much-needed ADA improvements. The new entrance will enhance safety, as it will no longer be located beneath the tracks. Additionally, the project includes a new parking lot, walkway, bike lane, and a small storefront.

Construction is expected to take approximately 25 months to complete, with Westmont-based John Burns Construction handling the work. The anticipated completion date is in the third quarter of 2027. Further information on all of Metra’s improvements can be found here.

  1. Milwaukee North Mayfair is not accessible. It needs to be since it is a stop leading to Union Station

  2. 3rd quarter of 2027 would be 25-27 months away, not 40.

Thank you for the Metra at 95th Street update. Much like the Redline Extension project; this project too has been long awaited. We hope to assign local students and recruit apprentices to both learn and enjoy the beauty of site reconstruction, ADA compliance and public accommodations.
