Glass installation is in high gear as the AbbVie Foundation Cancer Pavilion continues its progress on the UChicago Medical campus in Hyde Park. General contractor Turner Construction hoisted the final iron beam to the eighth floor during a ceremony in early February that saw more than 3,400 people sign their names to the beam.
The $815 million, 575,000-square-foot facility is the work of architecture firm CannonDesign. The University and Turner Construction, together with concrete contractor Adjustable Concrete, received a foundation permit in December 2023 along with a pair of tower crane permits. The “core and shell” permit was issued May 9 of last year, and permission for the interior fit-out was granted in October 2024. UChicago Medicine plans to have the cancer center open for treating patients in 2027.

This looks to be absolutely beautiful! (More curves, please – I am so tired of seeing the vertical shoe boxes going up.) And of course, best wishes to all the patients who will be treated in this impressive building.
