The construction team of LR Contracting, BOWA Construction, and Goebel Forming jumped the tower crane at 400 Lake Shore in Streeterville this past weekend. Six new sections were delivered by truck to the site, and the erection crew placed them one at a time in the crane’s tower on Sunday. A permit allowing the crane to be tied in was issued by the city on March 10. The residential tower at 400 Lake Shore will yield 72 stories when completed.

With one level of concrete now being poured every three days, the skyscraper is growing rapidly. It won’t be long before the crane jumps again, as it stays ahead of progress. As of Sunday, that progress appears to have reached the 16th or 17th floor.
There are stacks of glass panels on a few of the lower residential floors. None of them have been installed yet, but it appears that will happen very soon.
We made two visits to the construction site on Sunday to watch the crane jump. Upon late-morning arrival, the second of the six sections was being set in place. When that was complete, the third piece was lifted up to the top of the tower. Mid-afternoon, we came back to watch the final section slide into place, raising the tower crane to its current height.

Awesome update, this one really has me excited. Last week I saw it poking up into view from the Tribune tower/Michigan Ave bridge. I think we will all be blown away by the impact this has on the skyline from the west of the lakefront!
