A renovation permit has been issued for the residential building at 2114 West Augusta Boulevard in Ukrainian Village, allowing for the construction of a new addition onto the rear of the existing three-story structure. Volo Holdings is the owner of the property, and their permit came through on March 24. Hanna Architects designed the new plans for them, which will also include rehabbing the 1908-built residence.

Details of the permit call for a rear stairway connecting porches on all three levels, and three parking spaces on a concrete pad off the alley behind the property. The permit refers to 2114 as an existing three-unit residence, but does not address how many units will be added with the new addition. It shows a reported construction cost of $180,000, and names Diamond Partnership as the general contractor.

Real estates records show no recent sale of the property that would name Volo Holdings as the building’s owner, but they did recently buy the building next door, at 2112 West Augusta. That building was built in 1898, and was purchased for $1.5 million in February. There are no pending permits to do work, but the roof of a detached garage at the back of the property, which attaches to the garage at 2114, is in dire shape. With surface parking mentioned in the 2114 permit, it’s safe to presume that garage will be demolished. Perhaps the 2112 garage will be torn down as well.

2114 and 2112 West Augusta are two blocks west of CTA bus service via Route 50 at Damen Avenue. The Route 70 bus runs four blocks north at Division Street, and the Route 66 bus runs four blocks south at Chicago Avenue. The nearest L stop is the Division Blue Line subway station, about three-quarters of a mile northeast at the Division/Milwaukee/Ashland intersection in Wicker Park.

Glad to see renovations rather than tear downs and generic boxes.
Couldn’t agree more. YIMBY doesn’t have to mean losing our history, especially when it’s over a century old like these buildings.
