The second of two adjacent five-story Logan Square residential projects has begun construction at Washtenaw and Fullerton. A 15-unit building is underway at 2357 North Washtenaw Avenue, which sits right across the street from its sibling project at 2354 North Washtenaw, and it’s starting to see brickwork and concrete block set for the first floor. Wilmot Properties, as they are next door, is the general contractor and developer here.

Wilmot got a permit to begin construction from the City of Chicago on August 2 of last year, with a demolition permit for the existing bank building arriving exactly two weeks later. The bank had already been demolished when we first stopped at the site the final week of August, But while new construction was underway at 2354, this site was still an empty, cleared lot.

That permit calls for 15 dwelling units on the second through fifth levels, with balconies accenting each floor. A deck atop the fifth floor isn’t specified, but there will be a rooftop stair enclosure and elevator overrun. The ground floor will be occupied by retail space and a parking garage with 13 stalls. There will be a roof deck over a portion of the garage.

Residents of both developments will live right across the street from Haas Park, which boasts a variety of recreational facilities, including a turf soccer field, a gymnasium, and a field house. For public transit options, the Route 74 Fullerton bus has stops directly in front of the construction site, and for north-south travel, the Route 94 bus stops one block west on California Avenue. A three-block walk south on Washtenaw leads to stops for the Route 56 bus on Milwaukee Avenue. The closest elevated train access is at the California Blue Line platform, about three blocks southwest.
