Construction of a new residential development at 754 North Bishop Street is beginning to go vertical in the West Town neighborhood. Volo Holdings, named as the developer in the new construction permit issued by the City of Chicago on September 25, is erecting the building. Their subsidiary, Diamond Partnership, is listed at the general contractor. Brickwork has begun in earnest, with much of the first-floor outer shell’s masonry work now showing.

Designed by Hanna Architects, the new building will rise four stories and hold 18 residential units. No retail space is mentioned in the permit, though openings in the brickwork on the front (north-facing) façade look like the could be storefront windows. The first floor will contain a parking garage with 18 spaces. A roof deck will top the fourth floor, while another outdoor terrace will cover part of the garage portion of the structure. A rear stair enclosure will connect decks on the upper three levels.

A two-story bank building and drive-up canopy on the site, a former home of Blanco Popular and, more recently, First Midwest Bank, was torn down this summer after having sat unused for the last couple years. That demolition permit, addressed as 1445 West Chicago Avenue, was issued on My 22, with DemoX handling demo duties.

Residents of 754 North Bishop will find stops for CTA bus service right outside their door, as the Route 66 Chicago bus has stops going both eastbound and westbound on this block. The eastbound bus can be used to connect with the Chicago Blue Line subway station about half a mile east. For north-south travel, Routes 9 and X9 buses stop two blocks to the west at Ashland Avenue.
