Masonry work is nearing completion on a topped-out four-story residential building at 1355 North Western Avenue in the Wicker Park neighborhood. The 12-unit elevator building was permitted by the City of Chicago back on November 10, 2022, so there must have been some delays. But crews are active at the site now.

KR Contractors and Maintenance is named on that permit as the general contractor here, working on a design by Michael Cox & Associates. There will be an even dozen residential units here, likely rental apartments, with retail space and a six-car garage included on the ground floor. You can see the framing for balconies at the front of the building, facing Western Avenue. The permit also calls for rear balconies, plus rooftop decks. The new development replaces an empty lot most recently used for parking; the structure sits tight between the two existing buildings.

Upon its completion, residents of 1355 North Western will be within a one-block walk of CTA bus service via Route 49 on the same block. For east-west travel, a two-block walk south leads to Route 70 buses on Division Street. The nearest L access is the Damen Blue Line subway station, about three-quarters of a mile northeast.
