Construction is underway on a small, long-vacant lot at 1619 West Lawrence Avenue in Uptown. After receiving a permit to build on July 23, McNea and Sons Construction has blocked in the first floor of the soon-to-be three-floor building, set to hold two residential units atop ground-level retail space.
Michael Cox and Associates designed the building for Greb Real Estate. There will be off-street parking at the rear of the building, but the number of spaces was not specified on the building permit. There is street parking available near the site that can be used by visitors to the retail space.
Residents will live less than a block from CTA bus service, including the rerouted 9 bus, which is scheduled to begin running as far north as Lawrence Avenue on September 3. The 81 bus also stops here, at the intersection of Lawrence and Ashland. Three blocks to the west is the Ravenswood Metra station, with access to the UP-N line. The nearest L platform is the Damen Brown Line, about six blocks southwest, while the 81 cab be used to connect to the Wilson Red Line platform to the east, and then the Lawrence Red Line upon completion of its renovation.
