With construction permits in hand, site preparation has begun for the first phase of Evergreen Garden, a six-story condominium development at 2128 S Tan Court in Chinatown. The former grass field under the CTA Orange Line tracks has been scraped of greenery in anticipation of general contractor MPI Contracting getting started on the project.

A permit to drive foundation piles was issued by the City of Chicago on April 23 of this year. That was followed shortly by the full building permit on May 1.
Designed by FitzGerald, this phase of Evergreen Garden calls for 110 units comprised of studios, one-bed, and two-bedroom condos. Developed by Tan Court Development LLC, the residences are intended for buyers age 62 and older. A 44-space parking lot will be included.

Residents of Evergreen Garden will be within three block of Route 21 and 62 CTA buses. The Cermak/Chinatown Red Line station is four blocks away, and the Cermak/McCormick Green Line platform is two to three blocks further west.
