The City of Chicago issued a demolition permit for 2841 N Southport Avenue in the Lake View neighborhood on Monday, June 17. Construction fencing already surrounds the four-story frame residential structure, as well as the garage at the rear of the property, which will also be removed. Tir Conaill Concrete is listed as the demo contractor.
In its place, a New Construction permit was issued back on April 9 for a four-story, three-unit masonry building with a basement. That permit also calls for a three-car detached garage. Both the garage and main building will have rooftop decks. It is not known at this time if these will be condominiums for purchase, or rental units. An express permit was issued on May 1 of this year, changing the general contractor to Bachula Development. As BD Group, they are also the developer, working to build a design by 360 Design Studio.
Residents of 2841 N Southport Avenue will be within two blocks of a Route 76 CTA bus stop to the south, as well as Routes 9/9 express buses to the west. The nearest L station is the Diversey Brown/Purple Line platform just over half a mile to the east.
