A two-story building at 431 N Dearborn Street in River North constructed in 1948, has now completed a restaurant renovation led by The Group. Originally the engineering headquarters for the Getschow Company, and later hosting Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse until its closure in 2020, the site is owned by Friedman Companies.
The 13,000-square-foot structure now houses La Grande Boucherie, a French brasserie originating from New York. This establishment can seat 400 customers and features an interior designed by Legeard Studio, reflecting the late-19th century Belle Époque period of France. The design includes wood accents, white ornate ceilings, and a second floor with a partially open layout.
The location is accessible via public transportation, with bus service available at the nearby Dearborn & Hubbard intersection, including Routes 22 and 36. Other accessible bus routes are 2, 3, 26, 29, 37, 62, 65, 66, 121, 125, 143, 146, 147, 148, 151, and 157. The Red Line at Grand station is a three-minute walk northeast, and the Merchandise Mart station, serving the Brown and Red Lines, is seven minutes southwest.
Barker Nestor was the architect for this project, and Crane Construction Company was the general contractor. As of now, the restaurant has officially opened.

Given the location a mid rise or high rise would have been the best use for this site .
Absolutely beautiful renovation and enhancement project. What a gorgeous looking restaurant. I hope it does well.
Indeed. Was trying to picture it in my head from memory and couldn’t. Then looked it up in google maps and I see why. A total transformation from yellow brick and awnings to this.
Incredible transformation on what was a super drab brick building. I guess they really can still build them like they used to
Exactly what I was thinking…restores a little faith in the present moment. 🙂
Love this even if a tower could be on top…River North needs saving!!
I love fake traditional detailing.
