Permits have been issued for a new residential building at 691 North Milwaukee Avenue in River West. The project is being spearheaded by Motew Realty Group and owner Kenny and Michael Motew. It has an estimated budget of $12 million, and received a permit on February 23.
When construction completes, the project will stand five stories tall. It will offer ground-floor parking and commercial space, and will boast 34 residential units.
Architect Jay Keller is in charge of the design of the project. Macon Construction Group and Brennan Masonry Company will work as the general and masonry contractors respectively.
691 North Milwaukee Avenue is located a short walk from stops for the 56 and 66 bus lines. Beyond that, the Chicago/Milwaukee CTA Station, which services the Blue Line, is located a short walk to the north-west of the property.

  1. We can very much build affordable if this budget is true.

    • Great observation.

    • We can absolutely build affordable housing, but only in the private sector.

This project appears to be delivering apartments for about $350,000 each (plus land, most likely). By contract, publicly funded projects seem to run more like $600k per unit and up.

It’s very clear that our government efforts at affordable housing are dedicated far more to other priorities than housing the most people possible.

  2. Is this occupying both lots or just the one shown in the picture? It seems like a lot of units to fit into four floors (assuming all of the parking is put on the first floor with the retail).
