The roof has now been installed for 801 W Belmont Avenue, a two-story commercial development that will occupy a prominent corner site in Lakeview East. The project is developed by Hubbard Street Group.

The new building will span 59,000 square feet of retail or office space, with four storefronts facing Belmont Avenue and one facing Clark Street. The design by Hirsch MPG features a gray brick facade with large loft-inspired windows and dark metal trimmings. The building will also have full-height mural spaces along both Belmont Avenue and Clark Street.

The project replaces a former bank building that was designed by Ivar Viehe-Naess and built in 1921. The neoclassical edifice was demolished in late 2021 despite some grassroots efforts to preserve it as a landmark. The project also replaces a surface parking lot that occupied most of the block bounded by Belmont Avenue, Clark Street, and Halsted Street.

The location of 801 W Belmont Avenue offers convenient access to various amenities and transportation options, being within a three-minute walk from the CTA L Belmont station, which serves the Red, Brown, and Purple Lines. There are also several bus routes adjacent to the site, including Routes 8, 22, and 77.

With WM. A. Randolph serving as general contractor, the project is expected to fully complete by later this year.
