Crane Goes Up for 1400 S Wabash Avenue in South Loop

Crane assembly can be seen for the 30-story high rise planned at 1400 S Wabash Avenue in South Loop, replacing a long-empty vacant lot. As of now, permits have been issued for the foundation, tower crane, and the superstructure up to the fourth floor.

CMK Companies is developing this mixed-use project, which will comprise of a ground-level retail component and 299 rental units on the upper floors. These apartments will offer layout sizes from one-bedrooms up to three-bedroom residences. Select units will also come with private terraces atop the podium. Amenities will include a top-floor lounge and open-air terrace.

Other building features will include a 105 parking spaces within the podium as well as a bike room with 180 slots. CMK has also planned for a small park on the north end of the property.

With its design by Pappageorge Haymes, the glassy facade will be made up of interlocking rectangles. These rectangular components are outlined with metal paneling, and either protrude or recess to add a textured element to the exterior.

Closest bus service can be found for Routes 1, 3, 4, 12, 18, 29, 62, 146, and 192, all within a five-minute walk. Residents will also be close proximity to the CTA L, with the Red, Green, and Orange Lines available at Roosevelt station via a six-minute walk north.

Total construction costs have been reported at $100 million, with Lendlease serving as the general contractor. Completion has been penned for 2023.

    i don’t know why they added a “dog run” to the park. Around me dog owners just let their dogs go anywhere regardless of laws or signs. That “people park” will be ruined by dogs in less than a year.

  2. Dearborn Park is laughably out of place and I love it. Bury them in the shadows! Such a gereat diagram to show what the neighborhood could look like in another 10 years.
