A permit was issued just yesterday for a new three-story residential building with a masonry facade at 6612 S Drexel Avenue in the Woodlawn neighborhood. The proposed project’s owner is listed as JPK Investments LLC. The scope of the project details three total dwelling units with plans for a north-facing balcony and a rear metal porch on the third level. Plans indicate the presence of a three-car parking pad at the rear of the building site. The lot is currently vacant.

Stern Group Architects are listed as the architect of record. No drawings or renderings have been disclosed at this time, however, a masonry exterior is anticipated given the masonry contractors listed in the plans.

The CTA Green Line can be accessed at the Cottage Grove station via an 11-minute walk north. The nearest bus services available are for Routes 5, 67, and 95 and they can all be found at the 67th Street & Drexel stop via a three-minute walk south. There are a number of grocery and dining options available within a five-minute walk.

Tomcon Corporation will act as the general contractor for the $400,000 construction. A full timeline and an anticipated completion date have not yet been revealed.

Hard not to notice how much residential development is happening in Woodlawn. I wonder if this is attributable to the Obama Presidential Library spurring gentrification
