Facade Materializes at Lake View’s Broadway Youth Center

Remaining facade work is nearing the finish line for Howard Brown Health‘s new Broadway Youth Center at 1023 W Irving Park Road in Lake View.

The five-story masonry edifice will house a mix of health and wellness-related programming for LGBTQ youth between the ages of 12 and 24, especially those who do not have stable housing. The nearly completed structure is replacing the shell of a former construction development that was demolished in 2019.

Internal programming is set to include a mix of various spaces, such as a health clinic, community spaces, counseling rooms, social and career services, and a dual-level open dance room. Despite the narrow size of the lot, the development also includes a small landscaped patio in the front.

Wheeler Kearns Architects is responsible for the design, which is enveloped in a brick facade with varying hues and textures. The exterior is also punctuated by an array of windows of various dimensions and spacing.

Closest bus service is available for Routes X9, 80, and 151, all three of which are available via a minute’s walk east to Irving Park & Sheridan. Those looking to access the CTA L Red Line will find service at Sheridan station, a two-minute walk southeast.

Bulley & Andrews is serving as the general contractor for the $11.5 million construction, with a completion anticipated for this fall.
