The Chicago City Council has approved city financing for Casa Durango, an affordable housing development in Pilsen. Located at 1850 S Racine Avenue, the corner property fronts S Racine Avenue and W 19th Street. The Resurrection Project is the developer behind the project.

Designed by DesignBridge, the new construction will consist of a mixed-use, affordable housing development. Rising five floors, it will hold 37 residential units with 1,610 square feet of retail space on the ground floor. Apartments will consist of one-, two-, and three-bedroom residences. Units will be made available to those making up to 60 percent of the Area Median Income. Additionally, 27 parking spaces will be provided along with bike storage.

The $20 million project will use funding from multiple sources including the recently approved city financing. The city support includes Low-Income Housing Tax Credits and multi-family loan funds.

The project was approved by the Chicago City Council in November 2019, with this approval from the council being specifically for the city funding. The Resurrection Project plans to break ground in September. Permits for the new construction have been filed, but have yet to be issued.
