Construction permits were issued this week for a new three-story residential building slated for 4035 S Calumet Avenue in Bronzeville. Owned by Pamela McCarthy, the new six-unit project will come with rear open decks, fencing around the property, a trash enclosure, and six spaces on a concrete parking slab. Prior to development, the parcel was occupied by a vacant grass lot.

Michael Ryan of the firm Chicago Roof Deck + Garden is the listed architect of record. No drawings or renderings have yet been revealed, and it is currently unclear if the design will be frame or masonry.

Closest bus transit can be found for Route 3 via a three-minute walk southeast to King Drive & 41st Street. Other bus lines within a 10-minute walk include stops for Route 39 available both to the west and north, as well as Route 43 to the south. Meanwhile, CTA L trains are available for the Green Line Indiana station, which can be accessed via a five-minute walk northwest.

Green space in the immediate area is comprised of Poplar Park one block west and the Bronzeville Alliance Neighbor Garden slightly further south.

With a reported construction cost of $350,000, the construction will be carried out by MC Construction Group LLC. Details regarding the anticipated timeline or completion date have not yet been revealed.
