Construction permits have been issued for two adjacent residential buildings located 6335-37 S Ellis Avenue in Woodlawn. The owner, filed under Jack Properties LLC, is planning for each of the three-story buildings to house three units and be accompanied by a three-car concrete parking pad in the rear. Currently the overall site is occupied by a vacant lot.
The project architect is listed under Charles E. Schwartz. Though no drawings or renderings have yet been revealed, multiple masonry contractors indicate what will likely be a stone or brick facade.
Nearest bus transit includes east and westbound stops for Route 63, located less than a three-minute walk north to 63rd Street & Ellis. Additional buses within the area include Routes 4, 5, 59, 67, and 95. Residents will also find nearest CTA L access via Cottage Grove station, located a seven-minute walk northwest.
Various outdoor spaces also lie within the area, including the 65th & Woodlawn Community Garden, the Flying Squirrel Park, and Boswell (Arnita Young) Park. Meanwhile, the western edge of the 500-acre Jackson Park is available via an 18-minute walk east, with the lake shore slightly further east.
Crown Construction Company is the general contractor for the reportedly $700,000 project ($350,000 for each building). A full completion timeline is not yet known.
