Within the last month, Quality Excavation has cleared a pair of two-story masonry buildings and one three-story masonry building. Photos show equipment removing the remaining brick piles from the demolished structures.

The new 265-foot-tall edifice will be designed by GREC Architects, whose rectangular massing is enshrouded by masonry walls at the base, with a glass and painted-aluminum curtain wall above. Second- and third-floor terrace spaces are also integrated into the design.

Despite no on-site parking, the transit-oriented hotel will feature a variety of public transportation options for guests to navigate the city. Nearest bus routes include north and southbound stops for Route 8 located along the adjacent Halsted Street. Additional nearby service within a 10-minute walking radius includes stops for Route 20 to the south, Route 65 to the north, and Routes 56 and J14 to the east.

Those wishing to board the CTA L will find the Green and Pink Lines’ Morgan station via a four-minute walk west. Access for the Blue Line is also available at Grand station, a nine-minute walk north.

As far as points of interest, the surrounding vicinity is filled with various bars and restaurants that make the Fulton Market corridor one of Chicago’s most vibrant commercial stretches. The river, Riverwalk, and Loop are also easily available within a 15-minute walk east.

  1. I’m loving the growing density in this pocket.

  2. Hopefully they don’t deviate from the proportions/pattern of the window accent panels in the rendering. 845 W. Madison looked nothing like the rendering when they finished. They had much wider strips and much less of them.

    • oof I didn’t realize it’s from the same team… that did not turn out well

      • Right, they really value engineered that project which looked promising in the renders. I hope they keep the accent panels true in size, color and number here. We could end up with flat, wide strips that will make it much less visually appealing. Anytime I’ve seen panels proposed in similar arrays reality never reflects it.
