Zoning Approved for Residential Development at 19 N May Street in the West Loop

Zoning has been approved for a new 15-story residential development at 19 N May Street in the West Loop. Located on an interior lot along N May Street, the site sits between W Madison Street and W Washington Boulevard. The nearest public transportation is CTA Route 20 accessed at the Madison and Aberdeen bus stop, a two-minute walk away. The Morgan CTA L station, serviced by the Green and Pink Lines, is a nine-minute walk away. Sulo Development is developing the project.

Designed by Lamar Johnson Collaborative, the building will rise 186 feet and comprise entirely of residential space. Containing a mix of two-, three-, and four-bedroom condominiums and penthouses, the development will yield 58 residential units. An amenity floor with a kitchen and lounge area, business center, fitness area, outdoor area, dog walk, and storage will be included in the project. Residents will have access to 82 parking spaces via an alley from N May and N Aberdeen Streets.

This design is the third iteration after the developer changed the scope of the project twice. The original scope looked to develop a nine-story residential building, with a change in 2018 that sought to amend the plans and expand the scope to an 18-story story. With changes in local alderman, the project has been scaled back to its current 15-story iteration.

Permits for the project have yet to be filed. The developers will reportedly be pre-selling units prior to the beginning of construction. Construction is then expected to take between 15 and 18 months.
