Facade Nearly Complete at 1125 W Van Buren Street in West Loop

Exterior work is nearing completion at 1125 W Van Buren Street, a 24-story mixed-use building near the southern edge of West Loop.

Developed by Tandem Partners, the project will accommodate 200 total residential units, as well as ground-floor retail. According to Apartments.com, units will range from 490-square-foot studios to 981-square-foot two-bedrooms. Amenity spaces will occupy the second and 24th floors, with just seven parking spaces on-site.

Antunovich Associates is the architect, having designed a contemporary facade of variably-styled metal panels that divide the glass curtain wall. The massing itself is a narrow rectangle, stretched thin by the site’s narrow plot that lies just north of Interstate 290.

Nearby bus transportation includes Route 126, with one stop just west at Van Buren & Racine and another east at Van Buren & Aberdeen. As for rail transit, the CTA L Blue Line can be accessed via Racine station, a three-minute walk southwest as well at the UIC-Halsted station, a five-minute walk southeast. Retail and a multitude of dining options are available in Greektown, a 10-minute walk east.

Tandem Construction, which shares the same parent company as Tandem Partners, is the general contractor for the site. Construction photos show most of the remaining work localized near the base and the crowning parapet. Work is expected to complete in mid-2021.
