Emergency demolition permits were issued last week to clear a two-story residential building at 1243 N Marion Court in Wicker Park. The structure collapsed late last month.

The previously-occupying four-bedroom masonry structure, owned by Blake Group under the Marion Court Ventures LLC, sat on the narrow lot between N Marion Court and N Honore Street. Bus access in the immediate vicinity of this lot includes a four-minute walk southeast to Route 70’s Division & Wood stop, as well as a six-minute walk west to Route 50’s Damen & Potomac stop.

Just a two-minute walk south is the major commercial corridor of W Division Street, which intersects with N Milwaukee Avenue and N Ashland Avenue several blocks east. A nine-minute walk from the property, this three-point intersection also includes the entrance to the CTA L Blue Line’s Division station.

Block Club Chicago reported last month that the building was undergoing extensive external renovations, but suddenly collapsed with no resulting injuries.

Viewpoint Services Inc. is listed as the wrecking contractor. Owner Blake Group has indicated that it plans to rebuild the home.
