Construction permits have been filed for a 17-story mixed-use building at 808 N Wells Street in Near North Side. The lot sits along River North’s northern edge, at the corner of N Wells Street and W Chicago Avenue. The property also lies between two Route 66 bus stops, each approximately a one-minute walk east or west. There are also two nearby “Chicago” CTA L stations within walking distance, one serviced by the Brown and Purple Lines, the other serviced by the Red Line.

While the permit lists 808 North Wells Street Devco, LLC as the owner, HotSpot Rentals reported in June 2019 that Chicago-based property management company AMLI has involvement in the 342-foot-tall project, dubbing it “AMLI 808.” AMLI is also reportedly planning to divide the residential portion into 550-square-foot micro-apartments. The smaller unit plan is reflected in the high unit count of 318 residences, despite the development only stretching 16 floors. The permit additionally lists commercial space and parking on the first floor, but does not mention the number of spaces to be included. The total square footage has not been listed, but given the known details the structure is likely close to 200,000 square feet.

George Sorich of NORR is listed as the architect of record, with Walsh Construction Company as the general contractor.

The most recent construction permits were issued for the foundation and first six floors this past March. A completion date has not yet been specified.
