Additional funding has been rewarded for the upcoming CTA Red Line Extension across the South Side. The news of an additional $100 million comes after the Chicago Transit Authority announced $1.973 billion in funds earlier this year from the federal government. Led by the CTA itself, currently three teams are working on their proposals to build out the expansion and stations.
The Chicago Department of Transportation and Lyft have announced a major expansion for the city’s Divvy bike share system across multiple northwest and southwest neighborhoods. The expansion comes right after the system finished its latest round of work which included added stations, new e-bikes, and parking stations. However it comes at a time where bike-related deaths and accidents are on the rise with local advocates calling for improved infrastructure.
Initial details have been revealed for a potential off-shore wind farm near 3600 E 95th Street in the East Side community area. Located near the Illinois International Port District close to the state line with Indiana, the new proposal seeks to create the first facility of its kind on the Great Lakes ahead of other states vying for the opportunity. The plans were introduced by State Representatives Marcus Evans Jr. and Robert Peters at a neighborhood meeting this past week in hopes of getting locals on board.
