Renovation Permits Issued for Great Lakes Academy Church at 8401 S Saginaw Avenue in South Chicago

Renovation permits have been issued for an existing church building that lies on the premises of the Great Lakes Academy charter school, located at 8401 S Saginaw Avenue in South Chicago. As the occupying owner, Great Lakes Academy plans to convert the 17,000-square-foot structure and its 15,000-square-foot basement to a gymnasium, cafeteria, and full-service kitchen. The issued permit also indicates a new single-story, 4,000-square-foot structure, as well as a partial renovation of the existing school building.

Renovation Underway for Mies van der Rohe’s Cunningham Hall at Illinois Institute of Technology, in Bronzeville

Renovation permits have been filed for Cunningham Hall, a nine-story residential building originally designed by famous German architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in 1955, at the Illinois Institute of Technology. Located at 3100 S Michigan Avenue on the northeastern edge of the main campus in Bronzeville, the structure was built by Mies van der Rohe as part of his campus plan and used as on-campus apartments. The nearest CTA L station is the 35th Bronzeville IIT stop, serviced by the Green Line, a five-minute walk away.
