First Two Of Three-Flat Trio Permitted On Maryland Avenue In Woodlawn

Permits have been issued to build a three-unit residential buildings at 6550 and 6552 South Maryland Avenue in Woodlawn, with a third permit on the way for 6548 South Maryland. Kasper Development LLC is the recipient of the approvals, with 6550’s permit coming through on June 27, and 6552’s issued on July 8. Each permit comes with a reported construction cost of $400,000, and all three were applied for on April 25 of this year.

All three buildings will rise three stories with rear stairways connecting all three levels. A three-space concrete parking pad will be poured at the rear of each lot, accessed from the alley off Marquette Road. The three homes will fill a triple-wide lot that has been vacant since a single-story home at 6548 South Maryland was permitted for demolition in 2012.

The parcel is one door north of the intersection of Marquette and Maryland. Peter Sterniuk is named as the architect of record, and Kasper Development will handle their own general contracting duties.

These three residences will be built on the opposite corner of the ALDI grocery store at 6621 South Cottage Grove Avenue. The CTA’s Route 4 makes stops at this intersection. One block south are stops for Route 4, X4, the N5 night bus, 67, and 95. The Cottage Grove Green Line elevated train platform is a three-block walk north.
