Permission has been granted by the City of Chicago for the construction of a six-unit building at 1547 North Wieland Street in the Old Town neighborhood. The permit was issued on April 1, with an application date of November 18, 2024. The reported cost of the construction is $2.525 million. The property is currently vacant.

Weston Development Group is the recipient of the permit, which calls for a four-story with basement, six-unit building with six indoor parking spaces. The building will have a deck on the roof, plus front balconies on the second and third floors. A rear stairway will connect additional outdoor spaces, and allow access to the rooftop. The architect of record is 360 Design Studio, with Westward Development Company fulfilling general contractor duties.

The construction site is next door to another Weston development, at 1543 North Wieland. That condo building was permitted on June 21, 2022, and comprises eight condominiums. One week late, on June 28, they got a construction permit for 1547 North Wieland for another eight-unit building. But while 1543 was started and is now complete, 1547 didn’t get underway. The new building has two fewer units, and the designer and general contractor are new. Considering that the first eight units are condominiums, it is presumed that the six units here will be condos as well.

The condo units will be available with one indoor parking space apiece, and there is nearby public transit available. The Sedgwick Brown Line elevated train platform is three blocks west at Sedgwick Street, where the Route 37 bus also has stops.
