Permission has been granted by the City of Chicago to rebuild a Shell gas station at the corner of 71st and Halsted Streets in the Englewood neighborhood. The permit has an application date of May 11, 2024, and it was issued 334 days later on April 10, 2025. It indicates a reported cost of $560,000. While the physical address of the station is 7100 South Halsted, the permit uses the address of 7112 South Halsted.

Nearly all of the existing service station will be replaced, with only the canopy over the fuel pumps to remain. A new 24-hour minimart will be built and new gasoline pumps will be installed, but there is no indication that any of the underground fuel tanks will be removed and replaced. New parking spaces will be added at the site, and landscaping around the perimeter of the property will be updated.

As captured by Google Street View in 2012, this used to be a Marathon station.
Gregory Ziomek of the Long Grove, IL design firm Proyekt Studio is named in the permit as the architect of record. L&M Construction Group is cited as the general contractor. There are no additional permits in the Chicago Data Portal for this location, but it is expected that a demolition permit will be needed to raze the existing minimart from the premises.
