A demolition permit was issued last week for a two-story frame multi-unit residential building and a detached frame garage located at 2654 N Dayton Street in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. The permit’s owners have been listed as 2654 N Dayton LLC. Tir Conaill Concrete Inc is serving as the demolition contractor on this project. New construction permits were issued earlier this month on November 7th for a three-story single-family home with a basement and a roof deck.

The closest bus service available can be found on Route 8 at the intersection of Halsted & Schubert via a six-minute walk north. The closest CTA L access available is the Diversey station where the Brown and Purple Lines can be boarded via a five-minute walk north. There are a number of popular restaurants and retail options found nearby.

  1. The demolitions on this and the other nearby streets are out of control. Has anyone been on Orchard lately or Fremont? Tearing down 5 separate homes at once…it’s starting to feel like 1960s urban renewal.

Yes they’re going to build on most of it, but the replacement buildings are massive suburban-like compounds. This is how a neighborhood’s diversity and vitality of every kind dies.

There’s an awful lot of NIMBY attitudes here for a site called YIMBY. I regret a fair few demolitions posted here. But this isn’t one of them.

We often neglect to follow up what replaces them, dismissively smearing the new without actually knowing what it is. There are plenty of examples of quality new builds.

  3. So much for another charming and historical Chicago home all for another monstrosity (“quality new build”).
