Initial Plans Revealed For Mixed-Use Development In Humboldt Park

Initial plans have been revealed for a new mixed-use building on the Humboldt Park Health campus in Humboldt Park. The structure which will become a new wellness and workforce development center is being developed by local organization ASI Home Care, who has not disclosed a formal address for the proposal. ASI is partnering with design firms Urban Works and APMonarch, both of which are Latinx owned and run companies on the neighborhood project.

ASI Home Care was founded in 1975 with their main offices currently located not too far south from the proposed project’s potential area. Since then, they have been providing bilingual at-home health services to post-acute patients, the elderly, and people with disabilities, all of which have seen a sharp rise in demand in the last two years. With 350 employees at the moment, the new facility will allow them to train around 15,000 home-health professionals a year according to a Block Club article.

The new four-story, 16,000-square-foot facility will be built with a clear glass front facade with black accents. The center will offer expanded workforce development and training programs to help bolster healthcare jobs, new office space for the organization’s new headquarters which would relocate, and a memory care center for those suffering from the likes of Alzheimer’s. Users will also have access to a large covered outdoor deck on the fourth floor with a decorative angled roof.

ASI is currently working on securing funding for the $7 million project which will have to come from city, state, federal, and private sources including new tax credits. While no formal timeline has been revealed, ASI hopes to break ground on the new center by fall with a 2023 opening date.
