Foundation work has begun for Inspire West Town, an eight-story mixed-use building located at 1140 W Erie Street near the southeast corner of West Town. Developer Bond Companies plans a combination of ground-level retail and 113 apartment units. As part of the Affordable Requirements Ordinance, the project will yield 23 affordable housing units, six of which will be part of the 113 on-site residences and the remaining 17 elsewhere in the neighborhood.

Units will range from studios to three-bedroom residences, with balconies in select homes. No details regarding prices have yet been revealed.

Resident amenities will include a fitness center, a dog run and wash, and a nearly 4,300-square-foot outdoor deck on the second floor. Additionally, the top floor will house a party room and a second deck with skyline views.

Fitzgerald Associates is behind the 108-foot-tall design. To fit to the triangular lot, the main tower portion forms an L-shape wrapped oriented around the second-floor deck. The facade will feature a fiberglass window system, matte metal paneling, and brick and stone at the base.

The transit-oriented development will have just 29 parking spaces and 93 bike spaces in its ground-level garage. Other transportation options include east and westbound stops for Route 65 via a four-minute walk southwest to Grand & Racine. Other stops for Routes 56 and 66 are also available via a six-minute walk northeast to the intersection of Milwaukee, Ogden, & Chicago. Those looking to board the CTA L will find the Blue Line at Chicago station, which is also situated at Milwaukee, Ogden, & Chicago. Pink and Green Line service, meanwhile, is available at Morgan station a 15-minute walk southeast.

Nearby parks comprise of Eckhart Park to the northwest and Bickerdike Square Park to the southwest. Shopping and dining options are also available in the area along the Grand Avenue, Milwaukee Avenue, and Fulton Market corridors.

Global Builders Inc. is serving as general contractor for the $40 million construction. While foundation and partial superstructure permits have been issued, full permits have yet to be approved. A completion date is expected for 2022.

Looks like a lame beachfront hotel in Florida. A building 250′ or so would have fromed a nice gateway with Avenir across the Kennedy.
