Site prep is underway for construction of the new residential project at 566 West Van Buren Street in the West Loop. Developer Riverside Investment & Development and general contractor Clark Construction scored three big permits in March, including caissons, tower crane, and the full build, and with work expected to begin in the middle of this month, tearing up the asphalt parking lot and potholing caissons now fits perfectly within that schedule.

As a reminder, 566 West Van Buren is a 12-story, 199-unit apartment project designed by Antunovich Associates. The building will include parking for 42 cars and 199 bicycles. Adjustable Concrete is on board as the concrete contractor, with Taylor Excavating now on site tearing up the parking lot. They’ve also dug a few noticeable pits inside that construction fencing.

According to Clark Construction’s website, residents will begin moving into their units by the end of 2027. By then, we might see some action started just up the block at 315 North Jefferson, where a nine-story, 52-unit residential building has just been proposed.

A building design where you can’t really tell that there’s car parking. This needs to be the minimum standard. Design aesthetics matter a lot.
