Construction progress is beginning to show above the fence line for the residential building at 4913 North Damen Avenue in Ravenswood. Developer Heffernan Builders received permission in November to erect a four-story, four-unit building on the site where they demolished the previous residence.
After beginning work in the fall, progress how now reached the first level above the basement, with brick and block showing over the construction fence. As this is to be a masonry-finish project, this early brickwork is what we are likely to see on the finished product.

Designed by Michael Cox & Associates, the building will have porches at the rear on the lower three levels, and a private deck on the top floor for use by the fourth-floor residents. There will be one indoor parking space for each unit, with two of them located in an attached garage and two located in a detached structure at the alley. Real estate sites report that Heffernan purchased the property just over a year ago for $995,000. Their construction permit shows a reported cost of $1.2 million. Those figures would seem to point in the direction of for-sale condominiums rather than rental apartments.

4913 North Damen sits just north of the intersection of North Damen Avenue and West Ainslie Street, where the #50 CTA bus makes stops going northbound and southbound. One block south, the Route 81 bus stops at Lawrence Avenue, and two blocks south of that is the Damen Brown Line elevated platform. The Ravenswood Metra station and it BNSF trains lies four blocks southeast at Lawrence and Ravenswood Avenues, where the newly rerouted #9 Ashland bus begins its southbound route.
