Plans have been revealed for another hotel in the North Halsted neighborhood at 3350 North Halsted Street. Located mid-block between West Roscoe Street and West Buckingham Place, the development would replace the commercial building that previously housed DS Tequila. The project is being led by LGBT-destination brand Tryst.

Tryst is working with local designer and builder Newlook Development after scrapping previous plans to open a new bar and nightclub in the existing building. The proposed structure would rise five stories and join the brand’s growing portfolio, which includes locations in Puerto Vallarta, Fire Island, Provincetown, and more.

The ground floor will feature a small lobby and bar with retractable windows that can fully open to the street. Above this will be 21 hotel rooms, some of which will have private balconies. The building will be topped by a large outdoor deck with two pools. One pool will be perched above the street front, while the second will be set further back beneath a retractable glass roof.

Although it is unclear where it will be located, the hotel will also include a nightclub, according to the announcement post, most likely on the rooftop. The building will be clad in a mix of glass, black brick, and black metal detailing. The team purchased the site for $3.1 million and now needs to obtain zoning approval from the city. Construction is expected to take 18 months.

  1. Love it! Great infill and nicely designed. They should have put a hotel like this on the street 30 years ago,

  2. Cool design! retractable first floor windows for a bar neighborhood is also very nice feature.

  3. These Micro Hotels are crucial for the city and what most of us love about it. We love our neighborhoods and their distinct features, it is great when people visit that they can stay in a neighborhood besides the loop and river north. Building more of these should be a priority

  4. Great! Sounds like I’ll get a discount when I present my LGBT I.D. Card.

  5. I am Yimby but also a preservationist, The building it would replace is a beautiful historic one, a picture should be included here.

  6. A hotel called “Tryst” with two-story suite windows facing the street… I see public nuisance complaints in their future leading to management instructing guests to please draw the curtains.
