Another Chicago home built in 1910 will meet a very different fate than the one at 1300 West Newport Avenuefeatured yesterday. At 5339 North Glenwood Avenue in Andersonville, a two-unit residence has been permitted for a deconversion into a single-family residence, but it will make up for the lost unit by building a coach house and Additional Dwelling Unit on the alley.

A renovation permit was issued by the city of Chicago on July 22 for the “de-conversion of two-flat to single-family residence with alterations and addition, new coach house ADU.” The homeowner named in the permit bought the property in February for a little over $800,000, according to real estate records. Wallin-Gomez Architects of River North is named as the architect of record for the alterations, and M5 Development of Highland Park will be the general contractor.

An existing two-car garage on the alley behind the home will need to be demolished so the ADU can be built, but no demolition permit has been issued as yet for that structure. While not specified in the permit, the coach house will likely include two parking spaces, as does the garage it will replace.
