Construction can begin for a three-flat at 4841 South Prairie Avenue in Bronzeville, now that developer Jack Properties LLC has a permit to get started. Issued On April 15, about six weeks after an application was filed on March 5, the permit shows a reported construction cost of $420,000. The new homes will replace a long-vacant grass lot with the Green Line elevated tracks passing overhead behind it.

Charles Schwartz is named as the architect of record, and Crown Construction Company of Oak Lawn is the general contractor. Details of the three-story, three-unit masonry building include a rear concrete patio and a steel stairway connecting decks on the two upper levels. A detached three-car masonry garage accessed from the alley off 49th Street will have three parking spaces.

Residents of 4841 South Prairie will be within a two-block walk of both the 47th and the 51st Green Line elevated platforms. The Route 2 CTA bus makes stops two blocks east at King Drive, and the Route 15 Jeffery Local stops two blocks south on 51st Street. For east-west travel, the Route 47 bus is less than two blocks north. A four-block walk west leads to another north-south route via the #29 bus. The 47th Red Line platform is a little less than one mile to the west, at the Dan Ryan Expressway.
