Plans have been revealed for the upcoming condo-hotel project at 2020 S Archer Avenue in Chinatown. Located on the intersection with S Clark Street, the project is being led by Century 21 Realty Associates along with HMC Realty & Management, who are also behind a 2023 development dubbed The Clark just down the street at 2116 S Clark Street.

The development will replace a small vacant lot a few steps from the Chinatown CTA Red Line station. The project will function similarly to The Clark, in that it will serve as a hotel with the rooms being up for sale to individual owners. Owners could then opt into the hotel’s management and make side income, with the ability to use it as a second home when needed.

Currently the architect is unknown, the project will rise seven stories and contain 102 rooms. These will be made up of regular studio-style hotel rooms, and a one-bedroom suite layout with a separate living space. The ground floor of the building will contain a small restaurant that complements a rooftop bar.

Dubbed UrbanInn, the building will be clad in a dark gray brick exterior. Sales for the project began in March with units starting around $180,000. However, a construction timeline is currently unknown. The project is being advertised to both English and Chinese speaking customers, its website can be found here.

Before the 2007 crash this was a popular product nationally and in Chicago. That said, it did not work out well for the buyers or developers.
Ahh yes, the Dearborn Park/Chinatown nexus, an area of town that hasn’t yet found its identity. One part industrial backwater, one part Los Angeles, one part suburbia.
We definitely need more projects exactly like this one to fill in the gaps. Glad to finally see this lot get developed.
We need for Related Midwest to get the hell out of town and give the “the 78” project over to somebody who’s actually gonna start building something.
Indeed, similar to what Sterling Bay just announced for Lincoln Yards. 1-developer mega developments are a terrible idea. If each developer opened up the areas into many smaller sub-sections and created a design competition, some development, and more interesting development, would probably already be well underway.
