A single Additional Dwelling Unit atop a two-car garage has been permitted for construction at 2219 North Kimball Avenue in the Logan Square neighborhood. The City of Chicago gave permission for the secondary structure on January 22. It will be added to a new construction, two-unit building that received a permit of its own back in May 2022.
The 2022 construction permit for the two residences did include a garage, but Google Maps photos from the air and street level show a garage has not yet been built on the property. According to this week’s permit, the building’s owners designed the ADU themselves and are shown in the permit as doing much of the work, though no general contractor is mentioned specifically. The estimated construction cost is $150,000.
2219 North Kimball Avenue is located within a one-block walk of stops for the Route 82 Kimball-Homan bus. Two blocks north are stops for the east-west Route 74 bus at Fullerton Avenue. The closest elevated train access is at the Logan Square Blue Line platform, almost three-quarters of a mile northwest.
