Rush received the first permit for the facility back on December 5 of last year. They’re erecting a three-story, 60,000-square-foot building that will house a variety of care spaces. Among the services that will be available are primary and urgent care, neurology and cardiology services, imaging, and surgical care. Approximately 90 separate rooms are being included to accommodate Rush’s offerings at the center.

Outside, a surface parking lot is mostly done that will include nearly 200 spaces. The site sits mid-block, north of the Harlem and North Avenue intersection. The Sears store at that corner was demolished in 2020-2021 to clear the space. All four corners of the junction represent different towns. The outpatient center is in Chicago, but this corner of the city borders Oak Park, Elmwood Park, and River Forest, allowing a large population to access the new facility. Rush has scheduled a mid-2025 opening date.

While the 200 parking spaces will allow vehicular travel to and from Rush North and Harlem, patients and visitors will also have access to a range of public transit options. CTA bus service via Routes 72 and 90 is within a two-block walk, as is the PACE Route 307 Harlem bus. That 307 bus line can be used to connect with the Oak Park Green Line platform about two miles south.

  1. surface parking lot…ew.

  2. Hiyo, this is in Galewood, not Austin. Nice to see this new use replacing the long vacant Sears.

  3. Ahhh, yes, I forgot that Galewood was not one of the 77 communities. A neighborhood within greater Austin. TY.
