Construction progress is ongoing at 1357 West Roosevelt Road on Chicago’s Near West Side. Yesterday, we checked in on progress one block east of here, at 1257 West Roosevelt. Both buildings are part of the Roosevelt Square development from Related Midwest and the Chicago Housing Authority. 1357 West Roosevelt Road was permitted for construction by the City of Chicago back in December 2022, and is not quite as far along in completion. The building is topped out, however, and most of its windows have been installed.
Like its next-block neighbor, 1357 West Roosevelt was crafted by DesignBridge and is being built by BOWA Construction, and it is delivering nearly identical specs. It will be a six-story rental building, and its 70 units will be broken down exactly the same as those at 1257: 29 CHA units for residents earning 20 to 60 percent AMI, 20 affordable units for those making 60 to 80 percent AMI, and 21 units at market rate.
Similar to West Roosevelt, 1357 West Roosevelt’s resident amenities will include a fitness room, a dog run, and a package room located on the first floor. That ground level will also contain 18 parking spaces, while 22 more spots will be located outdoors, off the alley.
Residents of 1357 West Roosevelt will live less than a block from the CTA’s Route 12 bus, which stops at the corner of Roosevelt and Loomis Street. A two-block walk west leads to the Route 9 and X9 buses running north-south on Ashland Avenue, and two blocks east are stops for the Route 60 bus, also running north-south, along Racine Avenue. Route 60 buses can be used to connect to the nearest elevated train about half a mile north of here, at the Racine Blue Line Platform.
