A new construction permit has been issued for the residential building coming to 455 North Carpenter Street in West Town. Demolition of the former Allied Valve Industries facility wrapped up earlier this month, leaving a blank slate for developer Range Group to get started on their 72-unit project.
Straddling the line between the West Loop and West Town, 455 North Carpenter is a five-story building designed by Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture. The corner of Carpenter Street and Grand Avenue will feature a ground-level retail space, with 33 parking stalls also occupying the first floor. The construction permit, addressed as 465 North Carpenter, was issued November 21, with McNea & Sons Construction assigned to general contractor duties.
This development is directly across the street from another residential project just getting underway. Aberdeen Crossing, at 1100 West Grand, just wrapped up caisson work for a seven-story, 99-unit apartment building.
Residents of 455 North Carpenter will find stops for the CTA’s Route 65 bus located right outside their door. They can use that bus to connect to the Grand Blue Line subway station just under half a mile to the east. Routes 8 and 56 buses are also available at that same junction of Grand/Milwaukee/Halsted.
